This past weekend, we travelled to Tulsa to visit my parents and friends for the first time in 4 months.
You may be thinking that’s sweet and all, she must live so far away.
I actually only live an hour and 45 minutes away, but making the trip takes sincere, dedicated effort. I have to find a house sitter or a dog sitter, find a place to stay, if the kids want to go we need to all be off work, are my parents sitting with my grand dad or do they have other plans – it’s a coordinated effort that I wish came together easily.
It got me thinking about how I do call my parents and friends in the pockets of time between visits, but really, days and weeks can go by without any communication.
I plan pretty much everything else in my life, so it made me think that I could track my relationship efforts the same way I do any other habit. No, my family and friends aren’t chores or projects to work on, but it is easy to get “too busy” and miss some chats, so this month, I’m digging in to my relationships in hopes that it will help me to stay in touch.
